Raven Women Drop Fourth Straight

Despite a great effort, the Coffeyville Red Raven women couldn’t get over the hump, falling to the Independence Pirates 62 -54 on Wednesday.

Things didn’t look good for the Ravens early. After giving up 4 early three-pointers in the second quarter, Coffeyville found themselves trailing by as many as 19. However, with the Pirates racking up fouls and forced to go deeper in the bench, the Ravens embarked upon a 15-0 run to end the half. They’d trail by just 4 at 31-27 at the break.

The Ravens looked to keep that momentum going out of the locker rooms, but Independence just wouldn’t give up their lead. The Ravens repeatedly got back to within 4 points, just to see the Pirates jump back out to another 8- or 9-point advantage. Ultimately, the Pirates got the last laugh, pulling away in the final minutes for a 62-54 victory.

Faith Simpson led the Ravens scoring attack with 21 points. She also racked up 11 rebounds for the double-double. Coffeyville falls to 15-9 on the season, 9-9 in Jayhawk Conference play. They’ve now lost 4 straight contests.
