Raven Men Win Third Straight, Overcome NW KS Tech

The Coffeyville men's basketball team seems to be hitting their stride as of late, winning their third straight contest 80-63 over Northwest Kansas Tech on Saturday.

Much like the women before them, the Ravens benefitted from a hot start. Coffeyville pressed early on, frustrating a Mavericks squad who had just faced another aggressive defense in Independence earlier in the week. The turnovers piled up and Coffeyville slowly increased its lead, become a double-digit deficit at 17-6. Naturally, the great defensive effort turned into points on the other end, with Coffeyville getting easy buckets in transition. Those easy shots would help Coffeyville in shooting a staggering 63% from the field Saturday night. At the half, the Red Ravens led by 16, 43-27.

Fouls slowed the game down a bit in the second half, as both teams upped the heat and looked to create more opportunities. However, despite a much closer second half, that early advantage was enough for Coffeyville to cruise to an impressive victory, 80-63.

Bettis led the scoring effort with 24. Mayar came in close behind with 22. AJ McBride also reached double digits with 14. The Ravens have now won three straight heading into Monday's rematch with Cowley College.
