Caney Valley Snaps Four Game Losing Streak

 

In a game that saw both teams struggle offensively in the first quarter, Caney Valley was able to turn it on and never looked back as they defeated Baxter Springs 45-35 Friday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

 

In the first quarter, both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket but Kameron Williamson led the way for the Lions by scoring the first 6 points for his team and Baxter led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter. It would be all Caney Valley after that as the Bullpups open the second frame 13-2 to open up a 19-10 punctuated by a Gage Grant three-pointer.

 

Caney Valley led at the half 21-16 and was able to stave off every comeback attempt by the Lions and ended the third quarter with Jack Billingsley attacking the rack.

 

Both teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter to and Baxter could get no closer than eight the rest of the way. Caney Valley was led by Grant and Billingsley with 13 points apiece. Kaden Niday and Kameron Williamson led the Lion's attack by scoring and 12 and 10 points, respectively.

 

Caney Valley will travel to Erie next Tuesday to take on the Red Devils who are ranked #8 in Class 2A. Tip-off will be at approximately 7:30 and you will be able to listen to the game on Greatest Hits 104.1 KGGF. Kyle Hey will be on the call.
