Year in Review: Turner Wins 300th Game

Coffeyville Community College had a busy year across all sports, and with that, came plenty of milestones.

To start things off, we'll head back to March. In the midst of a successful campaign, a Coffeyville Community College coach achieved a major career milestone.

By defeating the Allen County Red Devils 70-51, head women's basketball coach Tony Turner reached his 300th career win.  Despite being the bottom of the conference, the Red Devils fought hard, and victory wasn't certain. Leading by just 5 points at the half, the Ravens needed a second half push to get things done. But the team came through, and Turner achieved his milestone win in front of a limited hometown crowd.  After the game, Turner was recognized by the Coffeyville crowd for his 300th win, and received a plaque from athletic director Jeff Leiker.

That wasn't the only success that Turner's squad saw that season. The Red Ravens were also the only team to give conference champion Butler a regular season loss-- and they did it twice. The team eventually finished out its season at 15-7, their second winning season under Turner in two years at the helm.

Coach Turner is a graduate of Independence High School, and played college ball at Independence Community College and DI school Morehead State. Before moving to CCC, he served as the head men's coach at ICC for 5 years, and before that, served for 6 years as the head women's coach.

The team also continues to see success as we close out 2021. As of writing, the team is 11-3 and currently sits in prime position for a postseason run.
