Go-Ahead 3-Pointer Lifts Coffeyville Over #25 Hutchinson

A go-ahead 3-pointer led the Coffeyville Red Raven women to a dramatic 64-63 victory over #25-ranked Hutchinson on Wednesday.

Coffeyville, in a departure from previous games, played the leader for the entire contest. After a quiet 9-8 first quarter, things would pick up, especially as the Ravens started to pull ahead. However, Hutchinson did not go quietly, and reduced the gap to just 1 point at the half.

It truly was more of the same in the final two quarters of regulation, with Coffeyville maintaining a lead and Hutchinson playing catchup. The Ravens even built their first double-digit lead of the game at 55-43. It wasn't to last, though, as the Blue Dragons turned up the pressure on both ends of the floor and fought back to eventually  force overtime at 59-59.

Overtime was largely a quiet affair, with both teams cautious and looking to slow things down. With just 20 seconds to go, and tied at 61, Coffeyville's Dariauna Carter opted to play the hero, draining a 3-pointer to give the Ravens its second, and decisive, lead.

A Hutchinson drive on the other end only served to close the gap, and with no foul called, Coffeyville emerged from its third overtime game as 64-63 victors.

Carter led all Coffeyville scorers with 15, her second straight game doing so. Faith Simpson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Nakia Cullom and Paige Scott each added 11. The Red Raven women are now 11-2 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. They are also 3-0 in overtime games this season.

The Raven women are back in action Saturday, taking on Independence.
