Coffeyville Splits with Barton

The Coffeyville men and women split against Barton Saturday, the women victorious at 78-72 and the men defeated at 74-48.

Both offenses were clicking in the women's game, with the two teams deadlocked for the first 14 minutes of game time. However, the Cougars would eventually go on a 13-0 run, building an 11-point lead, meaning that Coffeyville once again needed to find their way back from behind. A small Coffeyville counter-run before the break led to just a 7-point deficit before halftime at 37-30.

Despite briefly trailing by double digits in the second half, things went Coffeyville's way in the second half. Passes inside that had been previously unavailable opened up, and assists leader Dariauna Carter found it much easier to score herself in this particular contest. After cutting the lead to just 2 points by the end of the third quarter, Coffeyville would finally take back the lead with just under 6 minutes to play on a Nakia Cullom jump shot. Although Barton continued to threaten, never letting the Ravens get comfortable with their lead, consistent free throw shooting left the game just out of reach. The clock eventually expired, giving Coffeyville the win at 78-72.

Carter led all scorers with 18, a season-high for her. She was joined in double digits by Cullom (13), Faith Simpson (11) and Cheyenne Banks (11). The Raven women are now 10-2 on the season and 4-2 in Jayhawk Conference play.

------

The men's game was never in any doubt, and featured just one lead change at 3-2. The Red Raven men put up their worst shooting half of the season in the first, going just 4-32 from the field for a percentage of 12.5%. Meanwhile, the Barton offense seemed to be able to hit shots on command, going 62.1% from the field and 50% from behind the three-point line. That combined led to a staggering 32-point deficit at the half, 46-14.

Out of the break, Coffeyville found it much easier to score, and even won the final 20 minutes at 34-28, but a 32-point comeback was not in the cards, as the Raven men dropped their third straight.

Jordan Williams led all Red Ravens with 13 points off of the bench, all of which came in the second half. Love Bettis also reached double figures with 11. The Raven men are now 5-6 and 2-3 in conference play.

Both teams will be back home on Wednesday, as the Ravens play host to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Pregame will start at 5:00 PM, with tipoff at 5:30 on US98.1, KUSN.
