Ravens Split at NEO as Women Remain Undefeated

It was split fortunes for Red Raven basketball on Tuesday, as the women left Oklahoma with a 52-43 victory over NEO A&M while the men were defeated 81-73.

The women's game was a defensive showcase, as both teams showed off their height and ability to guard the basket. Neither team shot above 35 percent from the field, leading to a halftime score of just 26-24 in favor of the Lady Norse. However, with the game still fairly close heading into the fourth quarter, the Ravens got a huge boost its bench, particulary from freshman guard Martina Aeschliman, who hit three 3-pointers in a row to give her team the biggest lead of the game. Coffeyville outscored NEO 18-6 in the final period, pulling away for a comfortable 9-point victory.

Not one Raven finished in double-digits, but Aeschliman and Dariauna Carter led the scoring effort with 9 each. Nakia Cullom added 8 points off of the bench. NEO's Dariann Myles was the game's only double-digit scorer with 11. Coffeyville is now 4-0 on the season and will be back in Coffeyville tomorrow to welcome Bethany JV before Friday's matchup with Connors State.

The men's game was a rematch of just a few days prior. Coffeyville had won the first contest 86-70, but they found themselves unable to pull away despite a 20-point first half performance from sophomore guard Love Bettis. The Red Ravens, who are without four key players due to injury or ineligibility, found themselves unable to keep up with former Independence standout Johnathan Mogbo inside the paint. The lead would change hands several times throughout the game, but it was the Golden Norse who finally pulled away in the game's closing minutes to exact their revenge on Coffeyville.

Highly-touted guard Brian Moore and Mogbo combined for 49 of NEO's 81 points, while Bettis finished with 27 points. The Ravens are now 3-2 and have now dropped two straight, but will be back in Coffeyville this Friday as they take on Southern Arkansas University Tech.
