West Elk Secures Home Playoff Game in Dominant Fashion

West Elk secured its home playoff game next in a dominant, 54-6 victory over Yates Center on Friday.

The Patriots offense would be electric, but the scoring actually got started with a blocked punt. West Elk's Garrett Toon got in front of a Carter Burton punt early in the first quarter, taking the football 15 yards to the house.

West Elk would find the endzone three more times in the quarter, including two rushing touchdowns from freshman RB Creyo Koop from 2 and 51 yards out. The lone passing touchdown of the game was also picked up by the Patriots in the first, with Toon finding Koop over the middle for a 23-yard score.

The Wildcats, who were without leading passer and rusher Sean Hurst, found their lone touchdown of the game early in the second quarter. Junior RB Shane Weber snuck through the West Elk defense for a 16-yard score that briefly brought the game back to within 24.

However, there was to be no comeback in Howard. The Patritots once again relied on the efforts of Koop to put the game beyond reach. Touchdowns of 53 yards and 29 yards soon followed, with Koop capping off his massive performance with this 63-yard scamper.

Koop ended Friday night's contest with 6 touchdowns overall, and 5 touchdowns on the ground. The Patriots have earned the 2nd seed in District 1 and will face the 3rd seed of District 2. Yates Center will receive the 3rd seed of District 1 and will play the 2nd seed of District 2.

We'll remain with 8-Man football for the first week of the playoffs, as we follow District 1 champion Sedan through their run. They'll take on the 4th seed of District 2 next Thursday. Pregame starts at 6:30 PM, with kickoff at 7 on the Mighty 690, KGGF.
