Parsons Edges Out Caney Valley

It was a tale of two halves in Caney Friday as it was all offense in the first half and all defense in the second half as the Parsons Vikings were able to edge out a win over Caney Valley 28-20.

Parsons got on the scoreboard on a two-play drive capped off by a 41-yard run by wide receiver Dion Sylvester to make it 7-0. But then Caney would strike back with an 8-play, 70-yard drive capped off with an Andon Wood to Gavin Stimpson strike to give Caney an 8-7 lead.

After Parsons was forced to punt on their ensuing drive, Wood was sacked in the backfield and fumbled the football and the ball was scooped up and ran into the endzone for a Parsons touchdown to make it 14-8. Caney Valley would immediately proceed to march down the field in only 3:30 and Stimpson would haul in his second touchdown of the game to tie it up at 14 apiece.

Parsons would strike back quick as quarterback Tra Mack zipped a 53-yard strike to J.J. Kendrick to put Parsons up 21-14. Like a heavyweight fight, Caney swung back and clocked Parsons with a 13-play drive that ended with a 2-yard run by Baylor Thornton. The two-point conversion failed afterward.

The offenses would slow down as the second half would see numerous punts and turnovers but Parsons would find pay dirt with 6:53 left in the second half to extend their leads to 28-20. Caney Valley would turn over the ball twice on downs in the final 2 and a half minutes of the game.

Caney drops to 4-2 on the season and 1-2 in District 3A-1. The Bullpups will host winless Baxter Springs next week. You will be able to listen to that game on Greatest Hits 104.1 KGGF with Kyle Hey on the call.
