Coffeyville Fends Off Butler

The Coffeyville Red Ravens fended off a last-gasp Butler effort to pick up their fourth straight victory Saturday night, 35-21.

Coffeyville hit the ground running, scoring through the air on each of its first two drives. However, both the Red Ravens and the Grizzlies found that moving the ball would be difficult, with neither team scoring again before the half.

After a Butler score to begin the third quarter, quarterback Jakson Thomson would get the Red Ravens offense going again just before the end of the quarter with a 10-yard strike to Chris Bellamy that pushed the lead back to 14.

Running back Star Thomas, who missed half of last week's game against Highland, finally found the big gain he'd been looking for a few minutes into the fourth quarter.  Scoring from 53 yards out, Coffeyville would earn its biggest lead of the game at 21.

Despite the big lead, Butler would not roll over and accept defeat. The Grizzlies would find two more touchdowns in the following 4 minutes that brought the game back to within 7 once again. Unfortunately for Butler, however, Thomas would pull off another winding, powerful run, this time from 82 yards out, to put the game on ice with 5 minutes to spare. The clock would finally expire following one last Butler three-and-out, giving Coffeyville the 35-21 victory.

Thomas rushed for 226 yards in 20 attempts. Thomson completed 18 of his 33 attempts for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Red Ravens, now 4-0, continue their bid for an undefeated season on October 16th. They'll hit the road once again for a matchup with the Fort Scott Greyhounds.
