Columbus Rides Rushing Attack to GOW Victory

Cherryvale put up quite the fight but ultimately could not overcome the Columbus running game as the Chargers fell to the Titans by a final score of 28-6.

The first half was dominated by defense, but that wouldn't become apparent until later. Both teams scored on their opening drive, with Columbus quarterback Jaxson Haraughty scoring from 15 yards out and Cherryvale quarterback Austin Hooper scoring from 25 yards. The Chargers' offensive efforts would largely stall out after that, but their defense more than made up for it, picking off both Haraughty and Brett Hamilton for a couple of interceptions. Halftime would come with the two teams still close at 7-6.

After the half, Cherryvale would, unfortunately, lose both Hooper and leading rusher Jackson Knight on the same play to injury. That would put the team at a disadvantage that they just couldn't recover from. Meanwhile, the Titans found their stride on offense, with Haraughty finding the endzone from 65 yards out just before the end of the third quarter. Two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter would only serve to add the exclamation point to the Columbus victory, leading to the final score of 28-6.

Columbus improves to 3-2 on the season, while Cherryvale falls to 1-4. Next week's Game of the Week will see us travel to Neodesha, as the Bluestreaks host the St. Marys Colgan Panthers.
