Offensive Firepower Leads Sedan Past West Elk

Sedan continued its bid for an undefeated season Friday, defeating fellow unbeaten and rival West Elk 72-22 in a game decided by the mercy rule.

West Elk would open up the scoring on its first drive of the game, as Garrett Toon delivered a gorgeous ball over the top to Colin Wilson for a 63-yard score. However, Sedan would then rattle off 30 consecutive points before the half. Quarterback Brec Long overwhelmed the Patriots defense, scoring both on the ground and through the air.

Out of the locker rooms, the Blue Devils showed no signs of slowing down, as Long hit senior receiver Dameion Hatten through the air for a 52-yard score. West Elk continued to fight, moving the ball well and even putting it back to within three scores after a 28-yard touchdown pass from Toon to senior tight end Wesley Young. That'd be it for the Patriots scoring effort, but Sedan continued to chug along in the fourth quarter. Four touchdowns and a safety would be enough to bring the game to its end via the mercy rule, 72-22.

Long finished with 7 total touchdowns, including 3 rushing, 3 passing, and 1 fumble recovery. Toon put forward a great performance for West Elk, passing for over 100 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sedan also forced 6 turnovers on the evening. The Blue Devils are now 4-0 and will move on to face Oswego on the road. West Elk is 3-1 and will travel to Moran for a date with Marmaton Valley.

Next week's Game of the Week will feature the Cherryvale Chargers once again. They'll play at home against the Columbus Titans. Catch the pregame at 6:30 pm, with kickoff following at 7.
