Strong First Half Pushes Coffeyville Past Dodge City

The Coffeyville Red Ravens football team used a strong first half effort to push itself past Dodge City by a score of 22-13.

Early in the first quarter, the Red Ravens offense would bust its longest play of the game, a 51-yard touchdown run for Star Thomas. A missed PAT would make it 6-0, but kicker Forrest Taylor would more than make up for it through field goals of 38 and 39 yards.

Dodge City scored its first touchdown of the game midway through the second quarter, a 4-yard pass from Rashad Mckee to Justin Mitchell. However, the Ravens responded just a few minutes later with a 24-yard touchdown pass of their own, as Jakson Thomson found Chris Bellamy in stride to make it a 19-7 lead at the half.

The Ravens offense largely stalled out in the second half, but their work had already been done. The Conquistadors only managed to find two more field goals thanks to a bend-but-not-break approach from the defense. Taylor sealed the game early in the fourth quarter with a 47-yard field goal, his third of the game, to finalize the score at 22-13.

Coffeyville's Dorian Lewis led all Ravens with 93 yards on the ground, with Thomas recording 86. Thomson went 16-29 through the air for 95 yards. The Ravens are now 2-0 on the season. They'll take next week off before returning to action at home against Highland.
