IHS Golf and Tennis Both Win Thursday

 

Independence High School Athletics continued to dominate with wins from the boys' tennis and golf teams Thursday.

 

The tennis team won three of the four divisions in the Southeast Kansas League Championship in Independence to keep the title for the eighth consecutive year. They have also now won 29 of the last 31 league championships. Their final regular-season varsity tournament is slated for next Tuesday in Neodesha.

 

As for the golf team, they were in total control yesterday as they won by a wide margin of 22 strokes over second-place Pittsburg with a score of 358. Individually, five Bulldogs in the top ten. Jimmy Unruh finished 4th with an 87, Christopher Ortolani finished 6th and Chris Lewis finished 7th both shooting a 90, and Jase Mavers and Anthoney Siebels both shot a 91 finishing 8th and 9th, respectively. The golf team's next tournament will be in Coffeyville next Tuesday.
