The Independence Community College women's basketball team is going to the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time since 1996. The Pirates knocked off Barton in the Region 6 Tournament 67-61 to earn their sport as the 23 seed in the tournament. ICC entered the Region 6 Tournament as the four seed with a 16-6 record and a 14-6 record in conference play. The Pirates pulled off a big upset in the semifinals beating the 1 seed Hutchinson Blue Dragons 75-56.
ICC will face the 10 seed Wabash Valley in the first round of the tournament. The Lady Warriors are 20-3, they are top 10 in scoring with 83 points a game and are in the tournament for the fifth straight year. Butler is the only other women's team from the Region 6 to make the tournament. They are a 12 seed and will face the 21 seed Otero.
