Hot Start Pushes Coffeyville Men Past Dodge City

The Coffeyville men put together a superb shooting effort to defeat Dodge City 99-79 and advance to Friday's Region VI Semifinals.

Wednesday's contest was the second meeting between the Red Ravens and the Conquistadors, with Coffeyville winning the first game 65-58. The rematch would not be as low scoring, as Coffeyville nearly matched that total in the first half alone. A key part of that was the shooting efforts of Tylor Perry, Love Bettis, and Bostyn Holt, who all racked up multiple three-pointers before the first half came to a close. Holding a 19-point lead at the half, Dodge City could only briefly threaten the lead before Coffeyville fought right back. The Ravens would build their lead to as much as 29, and eventually cruised to the 20-point win.

The trio of Perry, Bettis and Holt would all approach the 20-point mark on the night, but it would be Perry who led all scorers once again. He'd shoot 7-14 from beyond the arc and shoot 10-19 overall to reach 27 points for the evening. Bettis recorded 20 on 6-8 shooting from outside, and Holt would add 19, including three trifectas.

Coffeyville's men will move on to Friday's semifinals, taking on Hutchinson. The Blue Dragons are the #1 seed in the tournament and defeated Independence on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Coffeyville women's season came to a close as they fell to Barton, 81-70. Faith Simpson recorded 24 points, with Amiya Josey adding 18. They'll finish the year with a record of 15-7.
