The Independence and Butler matchup sweep the Game of the Week awards for week one of the Jayhawk Conference football action. Pirates RB Tavion Thomas and P Stefan Forbes were named the Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week and Grizzlies LB Quae Drake was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Thomas had 211 all purpose yards and four touchdowns against Butler, including the go ahead score with under a minute left in the game. Forbes averaged 43.9 yard per punt and had five punts inside the 20 yard line to help ICC control field position in the second half. Butler's Drake had 10 tackles with a fumble recovery and an interception.
