Oklahoma Union takes home the Gold Ball beating Howe 64-54 in the 2A Basketball State Championship Game. Bartlesville Radio's Evan Fahrbach had the final call.
Jace Hollingshead had 23 points while Nate Collier added 19 and had 13 rebounds for a double-double to lead OKU to the title. The Cougars trailed 17-16 after the first, but held Howe scoreless in the second quarter to hold a 29-17 halftime lead. The closest Howe would get in the second half was five, at 31-26 with 3:44 left in the 3rd. The Cougars would answer on a Collier three and a then three-pointer from another senior, Henry Auer, pushed the lead back to 11. The Cougars limited Howe to 36.5-percent scoring. OKU shot 40.8% on 20-49 from the field. An impressive Collier bucket in the fourth quarter would be the final points of his career.
It was Oklahoma Union's first-ever appearance in a boy's basketball state championship game. The Cougars finished the year at 25-2.
