Sedan Slips Past Caney Valley

In a game that saw huge runs for both teams, it came down to two free throws to give the Sedan Blue Devils a 55-53 win over the Caney Valley Bullpups.

The first quarter saw neither team put much separation between each other as the lead changed hands several times with the Bullpups leading 16-13 after the first eight minutes. Caney Valley, however, sprinted out of the gates to start the second by going on a 15-2 run over the first 6 minutes to build a 16-point lead capped off by a Jack Billingsley three-pointer.

The Bullpups lead 35-21 at the half but the 3rd quarter was all Sedan as they outscored Caney 18-5 to set up some 4th quarter drama. The Bullpups were leading by two late with the basketball when freshman guard Jeremiah Price delivered some late-game heroics.

With just seconds left in the game, the Bullpups DaRon Davis committed his 5th personal foul and sent Sedan to the free throw where Keaton Dickens sank two free throws to make the score 55-53. Kaehl Smith missed a half-court shot at the buzzer to arrange the final margin.

The post-season begins next week as Sedan will host Conway Springs on Monday while Caney Valley will travel Riverton on Tuesday. Both games are scheduled for 7 pm start times.
