Big Nights for Keita, Perry Help Lead CCC Over Seward

Coffeyville split its two games against Seward County Community College on Saturday, dropping the women's contest 63-54 but taking the men's contest 71-62.

At first, it seemed as if the Red Raven women would be in for a dogfight against the Saints, going blow for blow all through the first quarter. However, the second quarter would not be kind to Coffeyville, as Seward outscored the Ravens 24-7 to take a 17-point halftime lead. Out of the locker rooms, the Saints would extend that lead to as much as 22, but Coffeyville would start to fight back. Martina Aeschliman would hit a couple of 3s, and Faith Simpson would find more opportunities in the post. The lead eventually shrunk to single-digits, and Coffeyville got back to within 4 on this Faith Simpson and-1.

Unfortunately, the comeback would stop there, as Seward County recovered enough to pull back out once again. Coffeyville eventually fell, 63-54. The Red Raven women fall to 3-2 on the season and 2-2 in Jayhawk Conference play.

Afterwards, the Coffeyville men took to the floor, and although Seward would take a 10-2 lead in the early stages of the game, it looked as if the Red Ravens had the key to a blowout victory. Heading into the locker rooms with a 32-25 lead, Coffeyville would finally break into double-digits for the first time on a Tylor Perry 3-pointer. The fun would stop there. Seward County ripped off a 19-2 run to not only take the lead, but get back in front by 7. Trailing 49-39, Coffeyville would start to chip away once again at the lead, and eventually got back in front with this Perry fadeaway. Perry wouldn't be done though. He'd add the dagger with this four-point play. Some free-throws would further seal the deal, and Coffeyville picked up the 71-62 victory.

Coffeyville's men improve to 6-0 and remain undefeated in Jayhawk Conference play at 4-0. Next up, both the men and women will travel to Great Bend to take on Barton County on Wednesday. That matchup can be heard on US98.1, KUSN.
