Bullpups Ousted In First Round of Playoffs

The Caney Valley Bullpups experienced a sense of deja vu as they were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round for the third year in a row by the Prairie View Buffalos 44-16 Friday night. The Buffalos beat the Pups 34-7 last year and 27-7 in 2018.

The Buffalos wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard at Prairie View quarterback Damien Kline was able to get into the end zone just 2:09 into the game to make it 7-0. After a sputtered Caney Valley drive, the Buffalos again marched down the field and found themselves in the end zone once against after an 11-yard run from running back Otis Jacobs to make is 14-0.

That is when the Caney Valley offense responded. The Bullpups quickly marched down the field with completions to Tanner Rose, Brec Williams, and Aydenn Waltrip before the quarterback DaRon Davis found Williams in the back of the end zone on a 6-yard strike. The 2-point conversion made the score 14-8 but the Bullpups would get no closer the rest of the game.

Prairie View ripped off 30 unanswered points before Caney was able to get on the board again on a 69-yard pass and catch from Davis to Williams that was punctuated by running back Trey King's 7-yard touchdown plunge to arrange the final score. Williams led the Bullpup attack with 3 catches for 94 yards receiving and hauling in a touchdown.

Caney Valley's season ends with a 6-3 record.
