Fredonia Defeats Southeast in GOW

Fredonia is heading into the district playoffs with some momentum after defeating Southeast 27-6 in our Game of the Week.

The Yellow Jackets (4-3, 3-1) came into the game with a playoff spot already locked in, but still looked locked in despite not having several players due to quarantine concerns. Fredonia would strike first in halfway through the first quarter, a nice 22-yard pass from quarterback John Dutton to receiver Layne Mayeske that allowed the team a 7-0 lead.

Nobody knew at the time, but that would be all the scoring Fredonia would need. Southeast (3-3, 1-2) would respond on the following drive after a 3-yard run from quarterback Nate Jacobs, but a failed two-point conversion would keep the Yellow Jackets out in front. After adding a rushing touchdown from running back Colten Dinkel, Fredonia would head into the locker room with a 14-6 lead.

Neither team would score in the third quarter, but Fredonia would add two more touchdowns to pull away in the fourth. Colten Dinkel added another rushing touchdown to his total, while Dutton would find Mayeske once again to cap off the scoring effort.

Following a Riverton loss to St. Mary's-Colgan, Fredonia has secured the second seed in Class 2A District 1 and will host a first round playoff game. According to KSHSAA season standings, they will take on Pomona-West Franklin, the third seed from District 2.
