Bullpups Outlast Parsons

In a wild offensive affair that saw both teams combine for nearly 900 yards in total offense, a single defensive play was the deciding factor as Caney Valley was able to take down the Parsons Vikings 50-34.

A scoring duel ensued nearly from the opening kick off as Parsons was able to get onto the scoreboard just 23 seconds into the contest on a 39-yard pass to Tanner Marcus. Caney Valley scored on the first of Baylor Thornton's four touchdowns.

The teams traded touchdowns back and forth the rest of the first half and Parsons headed into the halftime break leading 28-20.

The teams traded scores once more the game headed into the 4th quarter tied at 34.

The crucial defensive play occurred when the Bullpups Kyler Benson forced a fumble at Parsons' 33-yard line and the Bullpups took it down the field where Baylor Thornton punched it into the end zone to put Caney Valley up for good.

Baylor Thornton ended up rushing for 148 yards and 4 touchdowns. Brec Williams came on in relief to replace the injured Tanner Rose and ran the ball for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Ethan Houk lit up the sky for Parsons by going 21-32 for 368 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Receiver Dion Sylvester hauled in 10 passes for 178 yards and 1 touchdown while Tanner Barcus pulled in eight passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Caney Valley remains on the road next week as they travel to Baxter Springs to take on the winless Lions in another District 3A-1 battle. You can listen to the game on Classic Hits 104.1 KGGF with Kyle Hey and Jared Sleppy on the call.  Pre-game begins at 6:45 pm with kickoff at 7:00 pm.
