Galena Silences Pups

Turnovers and a strong defensive effort from the visiting Galena Bulldogs doomed Caney Valley as they were downed tonight by a score of 20-0.

After a scoreless first quarter, Galena was able to get on the board after starting a drive in excellent field position when Bulldog Quarterback Brett Sarwinski took a bootleg to the left and was able to walk into the end zone untouched.  After a missed two-point conversation attempt, Galena led 6-0.

On the ensuing series, Bullpup running back Tanner Rose had the ball stripped from on him at midfield where Galena was able to recover. The very first play after the turnover Galena running back A.J. Holmes ran for 50 yards down the middle of the field to double the bulge 12-0 at the half.

On the opening kick off of the 2nd half, Sarwinski saw a huge hold down the middle of the field and went 85 yards untouched to get into the end zone for the second time of the night. The two-point conversation was good to arrange the final score.

The Bullpups for the first time this season did not have a 100-yard rusher as Baylor Thornton rushed 13 times for 82 yards and Tanner rose only collected 31 yards on 7 totes and turned over the ball twice on fumbles. Quarterback DaRon Davis was 0-8 through the air and tossed 2 interceptions.

The Bullpups drop to 4-1 on the season and head out on the road next Friday to take on Parsons who topped Baxter Springs 42-14. You can listen to the game on Classic Hits 104.1 KGGF with Jared Sleppy and Kyle Hey on the call.
