NJCAA Postpones National Basketball Championship Tournament

Due to concerns over COVID-19 the NJCAA has postponed the National Basketball Tournament that the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens Men’s Basketball team is scheduled to compete in. The Ravens were set to begin play Monday afternoon against South Plains, Texas in a first-round matchup. Head Coach Jay Herkleman says with everything going on in the rest of college basketball and the NBA this is something he expected.

Herkleman says the plan is for a tentative start date of April 20 for the tournament, and if they do end up playing it will be over a month in between games which presents its own challenges.  In addition to the D1 Men’s tournament, officials have also postponed the D1 Women’s, and D2 Men’s and Women’s tournaments. According to the NJCAA President and CEO Dr. Christopher Parker the NJCAA will continue to monitor the situation.
