Coffeyville Baseball Takes Two Against Baker JV

Coffeyville found no shortage of runs on Saturday, run-ruling the Baker University JV squad 15-2 and 17-1 in an afternoon double-header.

The Wildcats found their only two runs in the first game in the bottom of the first, putting starting pitcher Alex Galvez in a bit of a bind. However, Coffeyville would promptly pick up three runs in the bottom of the first, two of which came off of a two-run home run from Riley Higgins. The Red Ravens would proceed to lead the rest of the game, scoring 6 runs in the second inning and 6 more in the fourth. Game 1 would end via the run-rule after the top of the fifth, with Coffeyville leading 15-2.

Game 2 saw Coffeyville jump out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, and after a scoreless second, it looked like the game might be a little closer than the first contest. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Coffeyville would come alive in the third inning and beyond, tacking on 15 more runs. Three home runs were hit in the game, with Adrian Perez, Brett Kennett, and Tyler Benefiel all putting home runs outside the left field fence. Starting pitcher Chat Hayes went four innings and struck out six, giving up just one hit and only three baserunners. Ciffeyville would take the victory after the top of the seventh, leading 17-1.

Coffeyville improves to 3-4 on the season with the victories. The Red Ravens will meet the Wildcats for a rematch on Monday, once again at Walter Johnson Park in Coffeyville. Our next KQQF broadcast of Red Ravens baseball will be next Thursday, when Hutchinson comes to town.
