The Cherryvale Chargers came out on top in this week's Game of the Week, soundly defeating the Erie Red Devils 33-8.
Cherryvale came out swinging, picking up the game's first three touchdowns and jumping out to a 19-0 lead. However, Erie would show signs of life just before the half, picking up a 2-yard touchdown run from Dawson Lehman and reducing the deficit to 11 at 19-8 going into the break.
However, with the rain starting to come down in a steady drizzle and fans starting to don their umbrellas, it was Cherryvale that took control of the momentum in the second half, picking up two more scores, including a 58-yard touchdown run from running back Zaine Lantz.
With the victory, Cherryvale improves to 2-1 on the season. The Chargers will once again play in our Game of the Week next Friday, as they celebrate homecoming against Belle Plaine. The 2A Dragons are 3-0 on the season and defeated Wichita Independent 66-0 on Friday.
Erie falls to 1-2 and will hit the road next week to visit the Riverton Rams.
