Humboldt Defeats Fredonia in GOW

For the second straight week, the Humboldt Cubs walked away victorious in Game of the Week action, defeating Fredonia 50-18 in a contest marked once again by big plays.

Cubs quarterback Conor Haviland made his mark early, picking up the first score of the game on a 55-yard touchdown run to open up the scoring. Fredonia would strike back on a John Dutton touchdown pass, but Haviland would score again on a 62-yard trot to advance the score to 14-6.

With the score 14-12 after one quarter, it seemed as if the two teams would trade blows back and forth. However, Humboldt would pick up the next five touchdowns, one through the air and four on the ground, to start the running clock and end the night early. Haviland finished the night with four rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown, the same total he finished with last week against Neodesha.

With the loss, Fredonia falls to 1-1, while Humboldt improves to 2-0 on the season. Next week's Game of the Week will see the Cherryvale Chargers meet the Erie Red Devils, with both teams 1-1 on the year and coming off big victories over their Week 2 opponents. As always, Connor Harbit will have the call from Erie on the Mighty 690, KGGF.
