Humboldt Defeats Neodesha in GOW

Neodesha could not contain the run on Friday night, specifically from the opposing quarterback. The Bluestreaks fell to the Humboldt Cubs 56-14 in the Game of the Week on KGGF. The game started slow, with the Cubs striking first on a 69-yard touchdown run from Isiah Coronado. Neodesha would tie it up later in the first quarter on a 7-yard trot by Phoenix Carpenter.

Heading into the half trailing by just two scores at 26-14, it seemed as if Neodesha would have a chance to upset a team that finished 11-1 just a season ago. However, Humboldt quarterback Conor Haviland took over the game, picking up three straight touchdown runs to start the second half and putting the game out of reach at 50-14.

Haviland finished the game with 249 yards on 15 carries. Four of those carries resulted in touchdowns, and the senior quarterback picked up one touchdown through the air as well. Neodesha quarterback Mayson Ellis also showed a lot of trust in his senior wide receiver Toby Curtis, picking up an 11-yard passing touchdown near the end of the first half.

Next week's Game of the Week will see Humboldt take on another SEK team in Fredonia. The Yellow Jackets picked up a 38-14 win over Erie in Week 1. Connor Harbit will have the call from Fredonia on the Mighty 690, KGGF.
