Red Ravens Fall To Fort Scott

Despite a second half comeback in their first home game of the 2019 season the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens fell to Fort Scott 40-29.  Mistakes proved to be the undoing for the Ravens Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Greyhounds wasted no time in capitalizing on Red Raven turnovers who gave up 5 interceptions.  Cam Smith played most of the game at quarterback for the Ravens, being replaced by Edwin Kleinpeter late in the 3rd quarter despite Aubrey Williams turning in a strong performance in the season opener against Iowa Western.

The Ravens led 7 - 6 midway through the 1st quarter after blocking a point after attempt by the Greyhounds and then countering with a 56 yard touchdown strike from Cam Smith to Devante Smith.  The rest of the first half belonged to the Greyhounds who scored once more in the first and three times in the second quarter to take a 34 – 7 lead into the lockeroom at the half.  The Ravens outscored the Greyhounds 21 – 6 in the second half but it was a case of too little too late.

The Greyhounds go to 2 – 0 on the season while the Ravens fell to 0 – 2.  Next week the Ravens travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa to take on Iowa Central.  That game can be heard live in KUSN 98.1FM Saturday night at 7:00.
