Red Ravens Take Top 15 Match up at Home

This past Saturday saw two top 15 nationally ranked teams battle it out on Jay Herkelman Court at Nellis Hall. The #12 Indian Hills Warriors traveled over from Ottumwa Iowa to face off against the #4 Coffeyville Red Ravens. Coach Herkelman and the Ravens worked hard through the week to improve upon the mistakes they made against N.E.O. a game which they still won by 20 points. Focusing on rebounding and free throws, and it certainly showed. From the tip Coffeyville managed to control the momentum and held on to the lead for the majority of the game as there was only 2 total lead changes. They also got huge contribution from a returner from last year Marvin Johnson. Johnson who missed practice this week with a tweaked ankle but came out Saturday night looking like he did last year. Creating turnovers and more importantly turning those turnovers into points. Johnson finished with 28 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals which led the team in scoring. They also got good play from Sophomore who is new to this roster Tevin Brewer as he nets 11 points and 7 assists. Leading 44 to 35 at half Coffeyville continued that success into the second putting a big spot on Indian Hills to start getting up by 22 points at one point in the game. Knocking down free throws and managing rebounds were the reason the Red Ravens finished the game strong and get the top 15 match ups win at home. C.C.C. wins 87 to 70 and moves to 4 and 0 on the year. Red Ravens continue their season next week on the road in Miami against North Eastern Oklahoma A&M for a tough road test. Ravens beat the Norseman last week fairly handily though they run a 2-3 zone very well and could disrupt the Red Ravens on their first road test on the year.
