Kansas’ Cold Weather Rule is now in effect.
The rule helps residential customers behind on utility bills avoid disconnection during the winter. Through March 31st, utilities covered by the rule cannot disconnect service when local temperatures are forecast to drop below 35 degrees within the next 48 hours. Utilities must also offer 12-month payment arrangements to help customers maintain or restore service. Customers with past-due balances must contact their utility to set up a plan.
The rule applies only to utilities regulated by the Kansas Corporation Commission. Many municipal utilities and cooperatives have similar winter policies. For more information, contact your utility or call the KCC at 1-800-662-0027.
