An Independence man is dead and a juvenile is injured following a shooting north of Sycamore.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says a shooting was reported at around 1:00am yesterday morning near County Roads 6200 and 3950. While deputies were responding, they learned 40-year-old Devin Windsor had been taken by private vehicle to a Neodesha hospital. Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Windsor died from his injuries. Deputies also learned a male juvenile was injured in the shooting. His injuries are not life-threatening, and he is recovering.

Investigators say a large party was taking place when several altercations broke out. During one of those altercations, a gunshot was fired, striking both Windsor and the juvenile. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
