Two people are killed in a truck vs motorcycle accident north of Caney.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2015 Harley Davidson was traveling eastbound Friday afternoon near the north junction of US 166 and 75. The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when the driver of the motorcycle failed to negotiate the curve to the south and crossed the center line on US 166.  The motorcycle then struck a 2025 GMC Sierra head-on on the westbound shoulder.

The motorcycle riders were identified as 71-year-old Michael Schmidt and 63-year-old Barbara Schmidt of Preston, KS.  Despite efforts by first-responders, both sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.  The driver and occupant of the Sierra were not injured.
