Wilson County Makes Change to EMS Funding

Category: Local News

The Wilson County Commission approves a change in EMS funding for 2027.

During last Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners voted to change how EMS sales tax revenue is divided between Fredonia and Neodesha. Currently, the two services receive an equal share of the funding. However, after reviewing statistics on emergency calls, transfers, staffing and service areas, commissioners voted to give Fredonia EMS 60% of the funding and Neodesha EMS 40%. The change takes effect January 1st. Commissioners also approved a $.50-per-hour pay increase for a deputy sheriff who completed his introductory period, along with right-of-way permits for two waterline crossings. The Road and Bridge Department also provided updates on asphalt repairs and upcoming bridge projects.

The commission is scheduled to meet again this morning at 9:00am. Today's agenda includes reports from County Coordinator Kris Marple, Road and Bridge Supervisor Kary Tatum and County Clerk Kayla Busch. Commissioners are also scheduled to receive an update on Granby Street at 10:00am, followed by public comment at 10:45am.
