County to Support Coffeyville in Housing Grant Application

Category: Local News

The Montgomery County Commission agrees to a request to assist the City of Coffeyville in applying for a state housing grant.

At Tuesday’s commission meeting, Montgomery County Action Council (MCAC) Director Melissa Johnson asked commissioners for the county’s support in applying for a $1.2 million dollar Moderate Income Housing or MIH grant for the Bricktown Lofts project in downtown Coffeyville. Johnson says the grant is specifically designed to make housing projects financially feasible and expand the supply of homes people can afford in rural areas.

Each county or city can only apply for one grant through the program. The City of Coffeyville is also applying for an MIH grant for the Gibson Housing Development. Johnson says MCAC is asking for the county’s help in bringing more housing to Coffeyville.

The Bricktown Lofts project would be implemented in three phases, with 15 units added in the first phase and another 15 in phases two and three. The county would not be responsible for any funding. Any matching funds for the project would be the responsibility of the developer. Commissioners approved the request on a unanimous vote.
