USD 446 Approves Purchase of New Bus, Policy Management Service

Category: Local News

The USD 446 Independence Board of Education approves the purchase of a new bus and an online policy management service offered by the Kansas Association of School Boards.

The service, called KASB Policy Plus, will cost $4,500 for an audit of the district’s current policy manuals, along with a $3,500 annual subscription fee. The service is designed to make school policies more accessible and easier for parents and students to navigate online.

The board also approved a $175,000 bus equipped with air conditioning and wheelchair accessibility. The district currently has one air-conditioned activity bus and plans to add another to improve comfort for students and athletes during trips, particularly during the high temperatures common in August and September.

In other business, Director of Learning Services Kellie Puderbaugh provided updates on Bulldog Buds Mentoring, accreditation and at-risk accountability. Bulldog Buds pairs students in grades 3 through 12 with mentors who meet with them weekly during the school day to provide guidance and encouragement.

The next USD 446 Independence Board of Education meeting is scheduled for November 9 at 6 p.m.
