Questions Remain Over Tri-County Finances

Category: Local News

Questions remain about the financial situation at Tri-County.

During the USD 445 Board of Education meeting, district officials discussed ongoing financial concerns at Tri-County and efforts to get a clearer picture of what led to the organization's budget problems. According to discussion, a proposal to pursue a special or forensic audit came up during a previous Tri-County board meeting. Five of the seven board members were present, and the proposal failed by a four-to-one margin. The matter was discussed as a question rather than a formal action item.

Coffeyville Superintendent Craig Correll says he believes a more thorough examination of Tri-County's finances is needed.  Correll says Tri-County is considering reinstating a coordinator position previously eliminated because of budget cuts.  Correll says he believes further financial review would help explain the budget shortfall and provide answers to participating school districts. The possibility of restoring the coordinator position is expected to be discussed at Wednesday's Tri-County meeting.
