Textron Aviation celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Independence facility with an open house and air show over the weekend.
The public got a chance to go on a self-guided tour of the facility which manufactures single-engine aircraft models including the Skyhawk, Skylane, Stationair, Caravan and the Citation M2. Hundreds of people were able to attend and enjoy a free lunch and air show plus kids games and activities.
The facility was built from scratch when Cessna decided to restart the production of single-engine piston aircraft in the mid-1990s. At the time, Montgomery County was among several regional communities hoping to attract the company. Since that time, the plant has had several expansions and continues to serve as a major employer in the county.
