The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office is launching an investigation into contraband in the county jail following an incident involving four inmates last week.

 

Authorities say four inmates at the Greenwood County Jail in Eureka experienced serious medical emergencies last Tuesday afternoon after ingesting an unknown white, powdery substance.

 

Deputies and medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures as the jail and the Greenwood County Courthouse were evacuated.

 

Responders say the inmates showed symptoms consistent with opioid exposure. They were given Narcan, which helped stabilize their conditions.

 

All four individuals were successfully treated, and authorities say the scene was declared safe about two hours later.
