A grain bin fire in the City of Piqua in Woodson County prompts road closures and an evacuation of the town.

 

The fire began yesterday morning inside a Piqua Co-op grain bin. As emergency crews responded to the fire, the bin was slowly drained of grain in order to avoid the stirring up of grain dust in an effort to minimize the risk of explosion. US-54 was shut down and nearby residents of Piqua were asked to evacuate for safety reasons. Fire crews from multiple area departments responded to the fire. No damage to nearby structures or injuries have been reported.
