The City of Nowata will hold a public meeting next week regarding the recent announcement of clean up at the city cemetery.

 

City crews have recently begun clean up at the cemetery in compliance with city ordinance. The current proposal is to remove decorative and miscellaneous items that do not comply with the ordinance. According to the City, the items currently being addressed for removal can obstruct the work of cemetery maintenance and mowing crews. The goal is to ensure crews can safely and effectively maintain the cemetery while following the ordinances that have already been established.

 

Nowata residents who wish to speak at the meeting will need to complete a request-to-speak form at City Hall. All request forms must be completed by the end of business on Monday. Speakers will be allotted 3 to 5 minutes. All requests will be considered by the Nowata Cemetery Board, though not all speakers will be given time to speak. Comments may also be submitted via email. All emails submitted to cemeteryboard@nowataok.gov will be reviewed and considered by the Cemetery Board. Responses will be provided after the September 30 meeting.

 

The meeting will take place next Wednesday at 10am at the Nowata Fire Station. Attendees should park on the west and south sides of the building. The City requests that no one park on the east or north sides of the building.
