The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating after a man was found dead on school property in Longton.

The Elk County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance around 2:30pm this afternoon. KBI agents and the agency’s Crime Scene Response Team responded to the Elk Valley USD 283 property. The KBI says there is no indication that students or the public are at risk. Superintendent Megan Gaston says all students and staff are safe and accounted for. She asks the community to avoid speculation while law enforcement investigates.

Authorities have not determined whether the death was accidental, a homicide, a suicide or due to natural causes. The man’s identity will be released after his next of kin are notified. The investigation remains ongoing.
