The Chautauqua County Commission discusses Evergy’s proposed transmission line through the county.

Commissioners discussed whether the revised route could follow an existing transmission easement near Cedar Vale. They say that could reduce the number of landowners affected, though the line might still need to move away from the easement where it passes close to houses. Commissioners also discussed burying portions of the line. They raised questions about the cost and whether requiring underground construction would go beyond the county’s role in reviewing the route.

The Kansas Corporation Commission ordered Evergy in May to reevaluate the eastern portion of its proposed Buffalo Flats to Delaware transmission line, which includes Chautauqua County. Commissioners say they had requested a tentative route map but had not received one. They expect Evergy to identify a new preferred route in October.
