USD 436-Caney School Superintendent Blake Vargas is named as a finalist for the 2027 Kansas Superintendent of the Year.

 

The award is given out annually by the Kansas School Superintendents’ Association and it meant to honor active, front-line school system leaders who demonstrate exceptional talent, vision, and dedication to public education.

 

Vargas has served as the superintendent of Caney schools since 2015. Vargas is a native of Dewey, Oklahoma, and attended Emporia State and Pittsburg State Universities. He is also a former school administrator in the Coffeyville School District.

 

Candidates for Kansas Superintendent of the Year are evaluated for their ability to demonstrate creativity and success in meeting diverse educational needs of students, for their ability to demonstrate and improve administrative knowledge and skills, for demonstrating strong communication skills, and by actively participating in their community.

 

Vargas is joined by fellow finalists Dr. Brent Yeager of USD 233-Olathe and Cindy Couchman of USD 313 Buhler.
