The historic fort in Fort Scott was the scene yesterday for 22 people from 17 different countries to officially become citizens of the United States.

The location provided a unique historical setting for the nearly two dozen people who reached the peak of a years' long process to become naturalized citizens. About half of the new citizens then registered to vote in order to be able to take part in the electoral process.

The Fort Scott National Historic Site hosts a naturalization ceremony each September.
