A former Kansas Commissioner of Education will become the Interim Dean of the College of Education at Pittsburg State.
The University announced this week that Randy Watson will step into the interim role beginning on October 1st. Watson is a Coffeyville native who spent 45 years in education. He has taught and coached in Twin Valley and Andover and also served as a school administrator in Concordia and McPherson. Watson was also an assistant professor at Kansas State University, and an adjunct professor for both Wichita State and Baker Universities. He retired in May after 11 years and the Kansas Commissioner of Education.
“I’m a native Kansan and care a great deal about students and teachers,” Watson said. “I’m excited and honored to be chosen for this role and look at it as a way to give back to a region of the state that helped shape who I became, to help an institution that understands its regional mission is to serve educators and students, and to strengthen that educator pipeline.”
