An 18-year-old Thayer woman is seriously injured in a collision near Chanute.
The accident happened just before noon on Thursday near the intersection of 160th and Brown Roads or about 5 miles south of Chanute. Kiera Garretson of Thayer was traveling northbound on Brown Road in a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 when she failed to yield at a stop sign. Her vehicle was struck in the intersection by a 2023 Ford pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Jesse Martinez of Quenemo, Kansas. Garretson was taken to KU Medical Center with serious injuries. Martinez was uninjured.
