Kansas and Oklahoma to Receive $134 Million in Meta Settlement

The States of Kansas and Oklahoma will share in a landmark $17.1 billion dollar settlement with Meta Platforms, Inc., the parent company of Facebook.

According to the terms of the settlement, Meta must implement sweeping changes to ensure the protection of children on Instagram and Facebook. The agreement resolves the claims made by 47 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands. The suit claimed that Meta designed Instagram with addictive features and knowingly exposed young users to serious mental harm.

The State of Kansas will receive $134 million in the settlement while Oklahoma is set to receive $235 million.
