Independence Community College agrees to terms with the City of Independence for the use of the softball fields at the Central Park Sports Complex.
At this week's Board of Trustees meeting, the school approved the partnership with the City to create a new home for Pirate softball. Previously, ICC softball games were played on the south 10th street fields. ICC President James Arnold says the condition of those fields made the move necessary.
ICC and the City of Independence were able to agree to terms that would allow the school some leeway in budgeting for the lease agreement for use of the new fields on Park Street. Arnold says the change will make Pirate Softball even more accessible to the community and gives fans, families and local residents another reason to experience the new complex.
The $11 million Central Park Sports Complex opened in 2024 and is also used by Independence high School and the Independence Recreation Commission.
